summer 2025…!

Hi friends,

The flowers are blooming and it’s almost summer!
Our Art Afterschool is over for the year, but we’re busy planning summer art camps, special programs, open studios, and more! It’s all super organizing, prepping, and shining up the studio for a fresh summer start over here:)

Here are a few things happening where you can see us (check back for more updates).

We are so grateful to be in creativity and community with you all!
xo, Christina

> Reiche School, Carnival Concert, Art Making + Parade!
Friday, June 6, 3:30 – 5:30 (come early for the art making!)
Join Love Lab Studio at 3:30 for art making! We will be making special leaf/flower “crowns” and some other fun things:) This street-fair-style concert includes a parade with giant puppets, maker-spaces with kids activities, a live symphony orchestra and choir, and a community dance party. This year featuring a performance of Growing Up Maine (written with the 4th- and 5th- graders from Reiche Community School!)

> Maine Academy of Modern Music, Resurgam Festival, Portland Waterfront
Sunday, June 8, 12 – 5
We will be in the visitings center again (with SPACE + PMA) for this fun, free local event.)

> Coveside Coffee
Saturday, June 14, 9 – 1
Join us at Coveside Coffee to make fun spring/sprout related art, and also make a “no kings day” poster to take home. Swing by before you go to the “no kings” march if you go. This is part of their fun “mini mart”. We will have some fun new art things to sell too, and maybe (fingers crossed) face painting!

> Juneteenth in Congress Square Park
Thursday, June 19, 3 – 5 pm
Learn about Juneteenth and make “story flowers” with us to take home and to share with a Maine ritual happening to commemorate this important holiday.

> OPEN STUDIO! At the studio – celebrate Summer Solstice!
Saturday, June 21, 10 – 4
Make art with us, and also we will have a super fun blow-out gently used art book + art supply sale. Not to be missed!

March in the studio + out in community!

Wow, it’s spring!
Here in Maine as I write this, I’m bundled up in a wool sweater, looking at a bloom from a bulb we put in water, it smells so lovely and also seems unreal (like the coming of spring!). We are going to ease into this new season with some gorgeous + fun spring collage with painted papers:)
Please see below notes, and we hope to see you soon! – Christina

> our public art popping up powerfully traveling and out-n-about, art that we co-created with the children! Our public art FOOD can (+ spoon) is out collecting mac n’ cheese for our community partner the Locker Project, to send home food for children in Portland over school break. This project aims for children to be engaged as artist change-makers, responding to the idea that food for all is a human right and no child should go hungry.
The can is –  traveling + collecting! First, Friends School of Portland launched it into the world, next – Wayneflete (March 19 – 24) next – Maine Coast Waldorf (March 25 – April 3).
If you want to be part of this effort, follow and support The Locker Project, you can also drop off boxes of mac n’ cheese to the studio while the can is out, and keep in touch.
