February Winter Art Camp!
It’s that fun time again!

Join us for our winter art camp, happening for 4 days, in February over winter break.

Our sweet winter art camp theme will be all things Maine winter forests! Think fairies, gnomes, little winter woodland animals with tiny homes + gardens, some fun wearable costumes, plus afternoon ice + snow sculptures and experiments! We will be working super tiny, and also on big projects, using all different kinds of art mediums and materials (mostly all natural as usual!).  We integrate stories and fun movement in all we do. This year we will also experiment to make an inside, child size winter habitat and to be more experimental outside (see the heart photograph!). We’ll cover some magical topics about winter, get some good outdoor play and experimenting with snow and shelter building. We learn with each other in a caring community. Our teaching approach is inquiry-based, and we support the curiosity and imagination of the child.

Rhythm of our day
*** Each day children will be greeted by a different early morning process (good for early birds!) in the studio with art or cooking.
Morning Gather: We will then begin with story time + fun, mindful movement work
Crafts + Art: individual and collaborative creative projects
Snack + creative play
Lunch + outdoor play + projects
Afternoon in-breath: rest + choice: books/play or craft, movement + more art projects!

When
Monday – Thursday, Feb 17th – 20th, 9 am – 3 pm. We can accommodate early or later birds if needed for additional fees, please inquire, 8-9 am, or 3-5 pm.

Cost
Mon – Thu, 4 full days = $ 210
Includes all the materials, 2 teachers, afternoon tea, additional assistants and visiting artist. Please note: If you would love your child to attend this camp, but cost is an issue, please contact us to inquire about sliding scale spots. If you are able, and feel generous in your ability to help a family who can’t afford the fee, please reach out to us to chip in to defer the cost for another. We also welcome patrons who want to support the cost of running our programs and studio and paying our teachers, as it exceeds what we charge for workshops. Thank you for your support and being part of our community!

What else
Children bring lunch, snack, extra clothing plus all the warm gear for outside play!
We will provide daily afternoon tea.

Some of our values
* The whole child: social & emotional development and inclusion within a caring community

* The child as co-creator: project based, hands on, and individual learning
* The child as artist: centering arts, creativity + imagination
* The child as informed citizen: community member, global & ecological participant

Who
Children: We welcome and celebrate a mixed age group of  children ages 5 – 9. We can accommodate children who are a tad younger or a tad older, if they are the right temperament to be with the group! We find some 4 years olds are fine with a full day, and others not! Please inquire.

Teachers: Our collaborative teaching team, includes skilled and caring lead teachers. We are a unique team with each of us having different, skilled and certified training and experience in: Columbia Teachers College Reading and Writing Program, Reggio Emilia, Public School, Waldorf Schools, and Art pedagogy of all kinds and more. We also have caring, skilled art assistants and look forward to a visiting artist for our winter camp!

Our space
Our space is bright and newly renovated, known as Love Lab Studio. The design is thoughtfully curated for the needs of the children. We are located in a mixed residential and retail neighborhood in the West End of Portland, at the edge of a beautiful park and playground and a nearby urban food forest.
