Experimental and Improvisational Ballet for Children!

Who: Children ages 4 1/2 – 8

Teacher : René Goddess Johnson
We are honored to have René teaching in the studio again for this sweet 2 week session. René Goddess Johnson was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and raised in the suburbs of Portland, Maine starting at age 6. She rises from modest roots and has become a distinguished director, producer, actress, educator, dancer, choreographer, and playwright. ​René has received the majority of her training at the Celebration Barn Theater in South Paris, Maine. Celebration Barn is an international residential center for theater training and creation. René herself has taught students of all ages, from early childhood to adult professional development.

What: In this sweet contemporary ballet dance class with a rotating fun playlist, René will lead children through a playful but instructional ballet class! Thursday afternoon, 3:45 – 4:45 pm Thursday Feb 28.

Cost: $15 per class – we are running this one as a pop-up one time fun dance party!
Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you need sliding scale to attend, so we can support you.
And, if you are able to chip in extra to help another child attend who might not be able to without support, and/or chip in for additional ballet shoes so all can have them that wish, please do and thank you.

Where: At the studio – Love Lab Studio @ 26 Brackett Street, Portland Maine

When: Thursday afternoons, 3:45 – 4:45 pm, Thursdays Feb 28. Please make sure children have a little snack before they come, and wear flexible clothing. If you have ballet clothes and shoes, we welcome them! If you don’t, that is fine too. Please make sure though children wear either slippers or socks in the studio.

SOME DETAILS
Children are dropped off at 3:45pm. Please have a little snack before you arrive! We won’t have snacks for this workshop, but we will do water/tea breaks as needed.
Things helpful to bring: For children please bring a water bottle (we have cups for water too), a little sweater if needed, and a cozy pair of slippers if you have them (socks are OK too) to wear in our studio. See above notes on ballet clothing and shoes. We can make 1 make-up class available if needed for children, incase we have a snow day! In the event you need to cancel, we will only keep 20% of processing fee if needed, if notified two weeks prior to the start of the workshop, or you can easily switch to another workshop in the future. Please contact us if you need a sibling discount. Prior to starting class, in the studio, each student caregiver must sign and return our student info sheet packet (includes media form, release form, and other important info). We can’t wait to dance in the studio with you all!
