Share your voice! – postcards
These extra-thick postcards were designed by kids, for kids.*
You can draw, paint, write, color on these because of the thick paper!
Children and youth, even if they can’t vote, have a giant stake in our elections and the world we live in. We believe engaging children in civic engagement supports them to be active, courageous and confident changmakers in the world and in their own lives.
Some ways you can use these cards!
– make them a voting card, and write VOTE! Consider talking about what voting is, how a democracy works, and ask them why it seems important that every vote is counted. Share that many people don’t vote, and just allow the card to be a “voting” card they can decorate with the word and/or just pattern, line and color.
–2 sides: allow children/youth to use both sides, the front can be drawing and design, the back can be a written message to a neighbor or family member
– consider an envelope: for mailing, as works of art, we recommend considering an envelope, to protect the art!
– brainstorm first: Ask: What do you think is important to share with grown-ups? You can brainstorm first with them and make a list of words and images that come to mind. What do you care about that you want to share with grown-ups? What upsets you or are you worried about? What is important to you that you want grown-ups to think about that you think isn’t being cared for? (usually children will tell us things like….Everyone should be treated equal no matter who they are or their language or skin color, I want there to be no more war, I’m worried about people who don’t have homes and how hard it is for us to keep our apartment, I’m worried there isn’t enough food for everyone, I’m worried about the birds getting hurt on buildings, I’m worried about shootings and if I’m safe, I’m worried there is so much trash and plastic getting into the ocean, I’m worried my school doesn’t have enough money, on and on!) Some children if they don’t experience these things directly might notice them, or its a chance to talk about inequality and what a better world for all might look like.
Choose which design you want. We pack them up in packs of 20, for $15.
You can pick them up at the studio (text 207.332.5790 to arrange) or you can pay for shipping and we can mail them to you.
100% profits will be donated to the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union), they dedicate resources to educating and empowering Americans to vote since founding its “Voting Rights Project” in 1965. A non-partisan nonprofit, they are at the ground level of defending American’s constitutional right to vote.
* even though designed by and for kids, grown-ups like them too!
