Description

1/2 day art workshops
We love opening up the studio for art-making, studio exploration, and learning, during school days off!

For Veterans Day holiday, we are offering a 2-hour art workshop
> Friday, November 11th, 9 am-11am

PROJECTS

In this workshop, we will be focusing on the land and the earth. Projects will include collage and montage with leaves + grasses, creating a landscape painting with natural paints and learning about composition, and co-creating a set of small paintings with hand written notes we will gift to the Veterans Home in Scarborough, Maine. A portion of profits from this workshop will be donated to Mano en Mano  to support their mission of: “Supporting immigrant and Farmworker communities to live and thrive in Maine.”

For the November Veterans day holiday, we are offering a 1/2 day workshop.

> Friday, November 11th, 9 am – 11 am

PROJECTS

We will be making thoughtful and fun corn sculptures, created out of repurposed and recycled clean paper materials from Portlands restaurants (LB Kitchen)  and our Portland food Co-op. We will also be making/weaving coil baskets or plates and learning the incredibly powerful coiling process. Coil basketry is made by Indigenous people around the world. Finally, we will also be busy making small corn husk-inspired dolls, painting with natural paint, and learning a bit about food that grows in Maine and the farmworkers who grow it. In this workshop, we will also learn about the important work of the local Maine-based organization Mano en Mano! On Monday, we are excited to have Eva Valencia back in the studio, from the organization, to talk to the children about their work. A portion of profits from these workshops will be donated to Mano en Mano to support their mission of: “Supporting immigrant and Farmworker communities to live and thrive in Maine.”

WHAT TO EXPECT Children come right into an engaging, meditative art activity with beautiful materials at the big tables! We will have a natural painting project right out for children to start with. When you arrive – quiet music on, the children take off shoes, put things away in a cubby (we put their name up each time), wash hands at the art sink – and then are ready and can get right to work! After they are finished – they have some free art choices or play or look at art books, then we gather as a group and get to our day!

WHO for this workshop we welcome a mixed-age group ages 5 – 11
We are skilled at scaling projects for children of all ages!
These workshops are led by a lead teacher (for these Christina) and an assistant teacher.
